Are you confident in the quality of your service?

Good quality isn’t just about having the right systems and processes in place. It’s about knowing that they are working in practice and giving you a clear picture of what is happening across your service.

You may already be asking the right questions. But what happens when you’re not completely confident in the answers?

Seeing the entire picture

Quality is rarely about one document, one audit or one measure. The picture comes from information across the service — care plans, medication, incidents, complaints, safeguarding, staff practice, feedback, audits and the actions that follow.

The important question is whether those different sources of information are giving you the assurance you need.

Looking beyond the individual checks

Having systems in place is important, but effective oversight means being able to bring the different elements together and understand what they are telling you about your service.

I work alongside owners and senior leaders to look at how quality is monitored, what the findings are telling you, how areas for improvement are identified and whether actions are followed through.

That might include:

  • Reviewing governance and quality-monitoring systems

  • Looking at care plans, risk assessments and associated records

  • Reviewing audits and how findings are acted upon

  • Looking at incidents, accidents, complaints and safeguarding information

  • Considering how feedback from clients and those important to them is gathered, understood and acted upon

  • Considering how staff practice is monitored and supported

  • Identifying gaps, patterns and trends that may need closer attention

  • Looking at whether actions have been followed through and improvements can be clearly evidenced

Quality has to be visible in practice

Good systems matter, but ultimately quality has to be reflected in the experience of the people receiving care and in the everyday practice of the team delivering it.

Making quality manageable

Having spent more than 15 years working in domiciliary care, from Registered Manager through to senior operational roles, I understand the reality of maintaining quality alongside the everyday demands of running a service.

Quality oversight shouldn’t be a tick-box exercise or something that simply feels like another task to complete. Done well, it should be useful — providing a clear picture of what is happening across your service, what is working well and where attention may be needed.

“Anita helped me with oversight of the service by giving me a governance structure that was so easy and straightforward to follow. Once I had support and guidance with this, I never looked back.”
